A little know-how goes a long way.

Practical answers for choosing, handling, and getting started with raw wood veneer.

Frequently asked questions

What thickness are the sheets?+

Unless a listing says otherwise, veneer is typically standard 0.6 ± 0.1 mm, about 1/42 inch. Tom occasionally has thicker domestic veneer and thinner 1/50 inch sheets.

Will it work for my project?+

Veneer finds its way onto guitars, skateboard decks, lampshades, furniture repairs, boxes, and more. Ask if you want help choosing for your particular job.

Can I get matched sheets?+

Consecutive sheets are normally sold together, unless a listing says otherwise. For a bookmatched project, order the material you need plus about 10 percent in the same purchase.

How are sheets measured?+

Dimensions are listed in inches. Tom typically under-measures by one-half to three-quarters of an inch. Irregular burl shapes may be marked to indicate the usable cut.

How does shipping work?+

Most veneer ships rolled into a protected cylinder and then boxed. Lacewood and highly figured woods that do not bend well are shipped flat in sturdy cardboard.
